It's not important how small or large your company is, only how you choose to use the web.

The web can be a great equalizer. A web page is the same thing for both a mega resort company or a small bed and breakfast. Both have the same amount of space on the screen.

What separates the winners from the losers is how each chooses to use that screen. So here are my top 5 ideas to help you use that space better.

1.	First Impressions DO COUNT. If your site looks like it was a 3rd graders project for computer class, then your business will come across as unprofessional and you will not be taken seriously by potential customers. Clean attractive design is critical.

2.	Having accurate and up to date content (i.e. written information) is important. Content is critical to being found through organic search, but additionally, if a prospective client has a browser open looking at your site it's because they want information.

3.	Technical capabilities are limitless, but just because something can be done doesn't mean it should be done. Things that blink, make noise and do other silly stuff should not be found on websites for respectable businesses. In all honesty, Microsoft researchers have determined that 67% of surfers will either mute the sound or leave sites that have a soundtrack (music sites excluded.)

4.	Simple, easy to understand navigation is critical. While there are many areas to be creative with your site, navigation should not be one of them. Your menus and site structure should be easy to understand and use.

5.	If you cannot find your website through organic search then rework your content and verify the page structure is correct. Page content and structure determines page rank.
