With this in mind I thought I would share five great applications that can be put to work at your company today for free. Today's post is item number 2 on my list of the five best applications you can put to work for free.
Number 2: VMware Server ESXi
IT managers at many small and mid-size businesses have incorrectly assumed that virtualization is a tool for large corporate environments and that there are no pertinent uses for the smaller organization.
The truth of the matter is that nearly EVERY company that has servers can benefit from virtualization software. Generally speaking, there are a several scenarios where virtualization has huge benefit. VMware Importer and VMware Server ESXi can be employed to develop a low cost yet very robust disaster recovery system. You can regularly capture images of your servers, and store them on an external hard disk. By doing this you'll have a fully operational copy of your server. In the event you would need to use this virtual machine you only need to restore the most recent data tape and the server would essentially be restored to the point of your last backup.
Additionally, VMware Server ESXi can be leveraged for your production servers to reduce the total hardware in your environment, decrease the maintenance, and improve the scalability... even for businesses with as few as 3-4 servers. Best part is...the entry level tools to do this are available for free from VMware. | | |
